Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province benefits from an excellent
reputation not only among China expatriates but also among Chinese
people. Many Chinese individuals and families come from major cities
such as Beijing or Shanghai to settle down and benefit from the recent
modernity and dynamic economy of the place and its unparallel quality
of life. More than 11 million people live here in a "xiuxian"
(relaxed) atmosphere, the food is " spicy " and considered one of the
best in China (Chengdu's famous hotpot will leave you breathing
fire!), and the climate is sub-tropical with distinctive four seasons.
Chengdu
counts now more than 8000 foreign residents (Chengdu PSB source). Most
of them come from Singapore, Hong-Kong, Korea, Japan, USA, U.K,
France, Germany and Australia. The majority is working for the many foreign Chengdu enterprises, many
are teachers or students. Chengdu's potential, its high
competitiveness and performing education system ranks the city among
the most attractive and performing cities in China.
Sichuan
province increase rate 2007: 14.2% (Chinese government source)
The Sichuan province
is also a much valued destination for tourists. Many sites like the
natural reserve of JiuZaiGou, the Leshan Grand Buddha, Emei and
Quingsheng Mounts, the Chengdu Panda Research Center, encount for its
exceptional international reputation.
Chengdu's
geographical location is also a strategic and ideal starting point for
travelling around China other and many Asian countries. The
international airport has direct flights to Bangkok at very low cost
and from there to all the other capitals in Asia. There is a
semi-direct line to Paris and KLM has recently opened a direct
Chengdu-Amsterdam line.
Chengdu is not
only the heart of China but makes every other destination possible.
